On campus & at the conference

We look forward to welcoming you to the University of Sussex campus, where the main conference proceedings will be located in the Jubilee building.

For information on checking into conference accommodation, please see the ‘Accommodation’ page.

Getting around campus

Click here to view, download and print a map of the University of Sussex campus, and visit the AccessAble site for information on campus accessibility.

The coach point (drop-off from King’s-Sussex coach trip, and pick-up/drop-off points for Charleston and Monk’s House/Towner excursions) is in the Science Car Park 1, by the Hastings building (see grid ref 4C on the campus map). This map (download PNG file) illustrates a step-free route from Jubilee, but note an uphill incline on Boiler House Hill. It is approx. 10 minutes’ walk, but please allow extra time to ensure you reach the coach point punctually.

For assistance with finding the coach point for excursions, please gather at the conference Meeting Point: outside the Jubilee main entrance (if dry weather), or inside the Jubilee main entrance (if wet).

About the Jubilee building

The conference is mainly hosted in the Jubilee building.

The Jubilee building address is: Arts Road, Falmer, Brighton BN1 9SL (click for Google Maps pin, or find using grid reference 5B on the campus map).

See below (or click here to download in JPG format) a floor plan of the ground and first floors of Jubilee, and the rooms in which the majority of campus sessions will be hosted.

There are three staircases (one at either end of the building, and one at the centre), as well as two lifts. There are toilets (including accessible) on all floors. There is a main water point outside the ground floor toilets, and further water dispensers in the kitchenettes on upper floors.

See our ‘Accessibility’ page for more information about the conference building and facilities.

At the conference

On your first day at the conference, please report to the conference registration desk on the ground floor of Jubilee (to the right of the main entrance, through the marquee). You will be asked for your surname and forename so that the team can register your attendance, and given a name badge.

You should wear your name badge throughout the conference. These will not include titles or affiliations (in support of non-hierarchical practices), or pronouns (optional pronoun stickers will be available). Badges will include markers to indicate which extra events/excursions you have booked, and you will also need your badge to access other delegate benefits (see email). Delegates will therefore not need to show printed/digital ‘tickets’ upon entry to these extra events/excursions – simply state your name.

For sustainability and budget reasons, we will not be providing individual printed copies of the programme or a material ‘conference pack’ – schedule information will be displayed in the registration area throughout the conference. If you need a paper programme, we recommend you print the Full Programme PDF file, before you travel to the conference (see ‘Programme’ page).

Catering will be provided in the Jubilee atrium and marquee (see programme for timings). Allergen information will be provided with conference catering. If you have supplied specific dietary requirements and are unsure what you can eat, please ask the conference organising team.

If you have your luggage with you (e.g. pre-check-in, or post-check-out), the conference team can store it in a room in the Jubilee building, during the main conference days (i.e. Friday 4th to Wednesday 9th inclusive, but not overnight). You may bring your luggage to the conference registration desk in Jubilee, where you will be asked to write your name, phone number and approximate collection time, on stickers to affix to your belongings. NB. While the team will make every effort to look after your luggage, they are not liable for its loss or damage, so you will be leaving your belongings with them at your own risk.

The University photographer will be taking photographs at various points during the event, such as the keynotes and social occasions. Please approach him if you would NOT like your photo to be taken or used, for post-event reporting and promotional purposes.

If you have any questions or concerns you need the organising team’s help with, please come to the Registration desk, or approach a helper wearing an orange ‘Ask Me‘ badge/lanyard.

On leaving the conference, we will invite you to return your name badge for re-use, and complete a paper/digital feedback survey.

In an emergency

Please familiarise yourself with the following campus guidance on First Aid and Security:
